High 5's all around! Week 3 - The Buddy Boss
Did you know that 23 – 29 September is International Week of Happiness at Work? That is why we’ll be analyzing The Buddy Boss this week! This manager is always in a good mood and seems happy no matter what happens. He wants to be friends with all of his or her employees. The Buddy wants to be seen as an equal and be well-liked for it.
There’s 3 kinds of employees in relation to the Buddy Boss. Firstly there’s the “I-don’t-know-what-you-want-from-me” employee. This person is very uncomfortable with the casual attitude of his boss, and will be confused when the boss makes small talk or offers to make him/her coffee “while he’s at it”. Secondly there’s the “fist-pump-oh-yeah” employee who’s ‘diggin’ the unconventional relationship with the Buddy Boss. This employee may even take advantage of the manager’s friendliness.
The third kind of employee: “I-see-what-you’re-doing-but-I-can-manage-it”. This is the right way to approach your manager if he is the Buddy Boss. You’ll have to take responsibility to balance your work time with play time. It's OK to be friendly with your manager, but don't let your work slack off as a result. Let your boss know that you respect him by always tipping the scale to professional rather than personal.
If you are The Buddy Boss – Wazuuup! We admire your positive attitude in the workplace and we know being uptight is not your thing, but try to be more sensitive to the employees who find your management style unnerving. Find the middle ground between being friendly and professional and you’ll have everyone’s full support.
The Buddy's Slogan: “Hakuna matata”
Characteristics: Charismatic with highly adaptive social skills. A bit of a chameleon, adjusting from one person the next to optimize the friend-zone. Intelligent, caring and optimistic.
How to succeed under The Buddy Boss: When it’s time to work, work hard. When it’s time to play, keep your wits together! Always keep in mind that your boss is your superior. Act accordingly, but if necessary, take initiative to get things done.
Socializing with the Buddy Boss at the Year End Function: This is a no-brainer. Enjoy yourself! Its that time of the year where you can let go and be yourself. Suggest a cocktail bar at your Year End Function where you and your Buddy Boss can order an umbrella-dressed pink drink to celebrate all the victories of 2019.
At Kilima Private Game Reserve and Spa, we welcome the Buddy Boss and employees and we want to celebrate your success with you. What about a Spit-braai out on the the Star Gazing Deck for your Year End Function? We’re running an amazing Year End Special with 4 menu options available.
